BoA2026: It’s your town, your future, your say!
BoA2026 is the first step in agreeing a shared plan for the sustainable development of our town over the next 15 years. We want people of all ages to help shape how Bradford on Avon works, looks and feels in the years ahead.
What do you like about the town – and what do you dislike? What improvements would you like to see? What would you like to change? And not change? How can we reduce our impact on the environment?
Let us know your thoughts by adding a comment through the BoA2026 website. Alternatively you can use the back of the card that has been distributed around town – or the insert in this month’s issue of The Gudgeon – and place it in one of the special BoA2026 boxes around town. Leave us your name and some contact details and we’ll put your name in a draw – with prizes of vouchers contributed by many of the town’s retailers, restaurants and pubs.
Make a note of the open day on Saturday 16 July in St Margaret’s Hall, when you can discuss your ideas with others – and hear what they have to say!
You can find more information in the Town Library, the TIC or at the Town Council offices. Join the discussion on Facebook or Twitter. However you do it, be sure to have your say. It’s your town and your future!
BoA2026 is a partnership between Bradford on Avon Town Council, Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon and the Bradford on Avon Development Trust, which is responsible for managing the events. The cost of BoA2026 has been met byWiltshire Council’s Bradford on Avon Community Area Board, the Mid Wiltshire Economic Partnership (through WestWilts Enterprise Ltd), and Bradford on Avon Town Council.
Mill Lane Car Park
A London-based speculative property developer has submitted a planning application to put seven houses on the car park at the top of Mill Lane, off Silver Street. The land is currently owned by Avon, but they are not party to the application. If the application is passed, it is likely that the land will be sold and the town will lose the only available parcel of land for a public car park north of the river.
Oppose the plan to build houses
The Development Trust is coordinating a fight against the planning application and is looking for community support. In response, we are preparing a counter-proposal to acquire the land and turn it into a public short-term pay-and-display car park. We expect to have outline proposals ready to present when the BoA Town Council meets to consider the application on Tuesday 11 January.
We need your support to fight this planning application. It will do nothing for the future of the town. A copy of the plans and a model of the proposed development can be seen in the Town Council offices.
Essential for local traders on Silver Street
We all know how difficult the traffic is in the town. If we are able to accommodate 25-30 cars to the north of the river, it will help reduce the number of journeys locals make across the town bridge to find a parking space before crossing back over the bridge to do their shopping. It will be a real boon to local traders.
If we can acquire the car park and turn it into community use, then we have additional plans that can significantly help revive the upper reaches of Silver Street and improve both the amenity and the appearance of that long-ignored quarter of the town.

The Iron Duke
The Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust has asked about interest in restoring the “Iron Duke” and returning it to Bradford on Avon as an important part of the town's heritage.
The “Iron Duke” is a calendar machine for rolling rubber constructed in 1849 for the then Spencer Moulton rubber factory at Kingston Mills. It is now stored in the Bristol Industrial Museum and could cost around £250,000 to restore and transport to Bradford on Avon. Alex Moulton has generously offered £10,000 to start the price.
